This online course (Mooc) is a free 6-week course that was put online on 9 September 2019. The course, in French and English, deals with Municipalism and tries to answer, from testimonies, experiences, documents, videos made to various experts and municipalist actors directly involved in these processes in Europe, the questions that we ask ourselves when trying to understand democratic radicalism and to build a new political ethic.

What are the keys to entering and governing municipalities for and with the citizens? What experiences already exist, what are their successes, their difficulties? What methods can be used to include the inhabitants? How can a citizens’ assembly be animated and give rise to a collective decision that is taken by all? How to generate confluences that allow to put egos aside and work towards a common good? …

During 8 modules spread over 6 weeks, you will have the opportunity to discuss topics from the most political to the most practical:
Module 1: Presentation of the MOOC and how it works.
Module 2: What is municipalism and what is its history?
Module 3: What are the sparks that lead to municipalism, what is its breeding ground and the different mobilisation strategies that result?
Module 4: How to prepare for electoral candidacies and forge social and political alliances?
Module 5: On what principles, values and processes to rebuild trust in democracy and institutions in your community?
Module 6: What does it mean to organise a democratic system FOR, BY and with citizens?
Module 7: What public policies and results to respond to social, ecological and democratic problems?
Module 8: How to generate new room for manoeuvre and strategies to influence supra-local decision-making scales?

The course is the result of a partnership between Commonspolis and Mouvement Utopia, which, since 2016, have been working to encourage citizen initiatives that promote democratic radicalism, respect for human rights and nature, and the defence of the commons.
